Since its inception, the FICCI Global Skills Summit (GSS) has been at the forefront for contemporary deliberations surrounding the transformation and evolution of the national technical and vocational education ecosystem. FICCI has been organizing the Global Skills Summit (GSS) since 2007 and contributing towards shaping the future of young India. The summit brings together key stakeholders, including policymakers, TVET experts and industry, for deliberations and knowledge sharing on the current and future trends, providing a forum for facilitating partnerships, future forwards deliberations and effective collaborations. The Summit fosters an ethos of active engagement and contribution from a diverse array of stakeholders, while serving as a beacon of innovative solutions and catalysing a paradigm shift in the Indian skilling ecosystem. With its enduring legacy, the GSS draws hundreds of participants including the senior bureaucrats, government officials and industry leaders converge on a common platform to shape the future of the workforce of our country.  

15th Global Skills Summit 2024

India is at a turning point in its history. The 21st century will be India’s century, as the country pole-vaults into the future with its trained and skilled workforce. The youth play a huge role in realising the vision of 'Viksit Bharat@2047 making our country a US$ 30 trillion economy with all attributes of a developed nation.  We have an unparalleled potential, with a workforce of 547 million individuals, constituting 41% of the entire country’s population (as per the Periodic Labour Force Survey 2023). Out of 1.4 billion Indians, about a billion are under the age of 35 today. By 2047, an estimated 21% of the global workforce is expected to be Indian. With the objective of channelizing the power of our youth into nation- building & economic development, the Summit aims bring together all the relevant stakeholders to ideate and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.  The Summit brings together 500+ participants, industries, policy makers, exhibitors, service providers and beneficiaries. The 15th edition of FICCI GLOBAL SKILLS SUMMIT,24 will be held on 25th -26th September 2024 at Kaushal Bhawan, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Moti Bagh, New Delhi.

Objectives of the Summit :

  • Facilitate dialogue between policymakers and industry leaders to address challenges, promote growth, and enhance infrastructure and capacity building in the technical and vocational education sector
  • Identify trends in youth employment, engagement and entrepreneurship sectors and develop a strategic roadmap to capitalize on the identified opportunities, aligning with industry demands and technological advancements.
  • Position India as the skill capital of the world and the destination for skilled and market ready professionals for existing and future job roles.
  • Showcase India's potential as an attractive investment destination in the TVET/ Further Education sector.
  • Facilitate collaboration between global and Indian businesses to understand the emerging megatrends shaping current & future demand in skills.

Event Highlights

Conference : The two-day conference will provide participants the opportunity to gain deep insights from the eminent speakers from the industry, academia, and government on the rapidly evolving landscape of the skilling in India. The conference shall delve into :

  • Identifying sectors (technology, education, healthcare, environment sustainability etc.) the youth are most interested in to channelize the policies in their most preferred areas.
  • Global Mobility of Skills
  • Operationalisation of National Education Policy (NEP 2020) in schools/ Vocationalisation of Education
  • Synchronisation of the National Credit framework ( NCrF) with School, Higher and Vocational Education and Industry training.

Exhibition : In addition to the conference, the Summit provides a platform for traditional craftspeople and artisans to present their work, art and craft from different traditional clusters of India to the diverse audience. The summit creates a conducive environment for these artisans to explore potential partnerships and markets. The artists will showcase art and craft forms. The exhibition space is also available for TVET providers and businesses to promote their work, connect and network with their target audience.

B2B Meeting and Networking Opportunities : The Summit will provide opportunities for delegates to have focussed business to business meeting with representatives from national and international partners in skilling, industry, and government. The meeting will have discussion around partnerships,  apprenticeship, internship, content development, industry – academia engagement , industry led skilling programs, Flexi MoUs, Dual system of training, inclusion of women in workforce , financing opportunities and much more.

VIRASAT : FICCI VIRASAT was introduced at the 11th FICCI Global Skills Summit 2018 as a first-of its- kind initiative by an Industry Chamber that provides a platform to the small, medium, and
micro enterprises working at the cluster level to showcase their skills and arts.  The broad objective of the program is to promote traditional clusters and share their best practices in the existing ecosystem, deliberate on their prevailing challenges and way forward. Every year, artisans from across India set up stalls during the GSS to showcase their products while a panel of experts discuss how to promote and enhance livelihood opportunities for these artisans.
